Vine Farmhouse – Interior Design by Studio at No. 11

Interior and kitchen of a modern extension to a period farmhouse. Design and project management. This house stands in the village of Meldreth, nine miles south of Cambridge, surrounded by a few acres of land and orchards that was once farmed by Vine Farmhouse.

The main part of the house was built in 1848, just pre-Victorian. Various members of a local family lived in the house running a small farm right up until 1987 when a local builder bought the property and started a major restoration.

The current owners bought the house ln 1990, and started a series of their own smaller renovations and redecoration. In 2016 they began a long-awaited project to remove the existing kitchen (the foundation was on an old apple store so just a small kitchen annex on the back of the house) and rebuild. The new structure was to be 4 x bigger, a modern, open, high ceiling space, in contrast to the rest of the cottage interior, but due to planning had to tie in with the existing on the exterior.

The lady of the house was heavily involved in the process, but sadly passed away before seeing the results, so the space stands in commemoration of her and is a testament to her hard work and beautiful ideas. The starting intention of having an open slight filled space for cooking and family gatherings lives on. The project included colour scheme, flooring, furniture, finishes, and kitchen design. Kitchen designed by Charlie, supplied by Boffi.
