Loft Apartment – Interior Design by Studio at No. 11

Loft apartment, Little C, Rotterdam

The waterside construction project Little Coolhaven consists of 15 residential and commercial towers, connected by squares and narrow streets on the ground level, and above, by striking black iron footbridges. With its own bars and cafes, the project is its own village. Innovative in design, with an industrial edge.

We were able to design and coordinate the entire interior concept for these wonderful clients. What started as just the kitchen quickly grew, to include all rooms and all elements of their new home.

The brief: a home designed for them, a new start in a city dwelling as their children were leaving home, but still a bedroom for each of them when they want to stay. Their only firm wish? That we include a wall-to-wall open shelving system to accentuate the height and length of the space, an initiative all of their own and one we were very happy to take as the starting point. From there we built the whole scheme, with this shelving as the impressive backdrop to the interiors.

The interior advice included colour scheme, lighting scheme, layouts, soft furnishings, accessories, house plants, and styling.

Warm woods have been used to balance the steel elements in the interior, mainly black lighting to compliment those same elements, with a gentle layered neutral colour palette,  billowing curtains to soften the lines, and a few key pieces – usually in the form of lighting – to add extra interest.

A beautiful open space to receive people and entertain guests.

What the client said…

‘What started with a design for a kitchen became a design for our entire apartment. We became more and more enthusiastic about the way Charlie works; creative, in consultation and always various options to choose from. From the first moment we moved into our new apartment we felt at home.’
