The Manor, Little C, Rotterdam, Netherlands
The waterside construction project Little Coolhaven consists of 15 residential and commercial towers, connected by squares and narrow streets on the ground level, and above, by striking black iron footbridges. With its own bars and cafes, the project is its own village; innovative in design, but with an industrial edge.
This is the fourth project we’ve worked on within this development, and the second project for this client. Whilst designing their office in Curaçao, we were simultaneously supporting them with their house hunt in the Netherlands.
Working on The Manor was an interior architecture project at its core. The brief required us to adapt the apartment to the practicalities of family life while honouring the existing framework of the space. We added an extra bedroom and reworked the layout by removing a compact office adjoining the living room. This allowed us to extend the primary bedroom and create a generous walk-in wardrobe – bringing a sense of ease and order to the home.
The goal was never to erase the thoughtful design choices made by the previous owner, but to pivot the space towards the new owners’ needs. Our work included a full review of the colour palette, lighting design, spatial planning, soft furnishings and accessories – ensuring every detail felt cohesive and intentional.
We balanced dark wood elements with light flooring to complement the development’s signature black steel structure. A gentle, layered neutral scheme softened the apartment’s industrial bones, with curtains and warm lighting creating a more welcoming, human atmosphere. And, because every project needs a touch of personality, the living space centres around a vibrant green sofa – a joyful contrast that brings the fun factor.
